OWF
In the past few weeks I completed the One Word Film Project (OWF) with my partner Gustavo Zorrilla.
We were required to pick a word out of a cup and create a 60-90 second film that represented and showcased the meaning of this word. The word we got was Arrogant...
My partner first started with some brainstorming. After, we started filming our shots and then we edited and finalized the project.
Brainstorming
For our brainstorming process my partner Gustavo and I started by really digging deep into the meaning of the word arrogant. This word isn't a simple word to describe or even showcase. We looked up different definitions and examples of how arrogance is portrayed in different scenes in movies and shows. Then, we started our brainstorming sheet.
We came up with the idea of representing the word arrogant with two students. We wanted to show that arrogance at the end of the day does not prevail and that when you are so sure of yourself, you can make mistakes.
We wanted to represent the arrogant student as laid-back and being sure that he can pass the test.
The responsible/confident student is studying and reviewing before the test to make sure she knows everything for the test.
The arrogant student makes fun of the other student for studying and being completing the test.
In the end the arrogant student ends up failing the test and the confident/ responsible student passes.
Editing Process, Techniques, & Shots
My partner and I used Adobe Premier to edit our project. In the editing software we edited all the shots together to tell the story of the two students. We used different techniques like zooming and split screen to show the full emotion of both the characters. We also used shots like POV and Close-ups to help emphasize which character is which and what they are currently experiencing. Something that we also used is transitions. That is a little twist that my partner and I were very excited about and we enjoyed making.
Overall
My partner and I are very proud of what we came up with and we had a lot of fun making this project. Something I believe we could have improved on was the time management of the project. I believe that we could have used our time a bit more wisely and that we could have done things a bit more calmly. However, the rest of the process, I think we managed well.
