Project Schedule

This week my team members and I continued to discuss the production process for our project.

We finally came to a conclusion for our schedule that we feel comfortable with.

These dates might change if anything pops up but we should be just fine with this schedule.

Credit Sequences analysis

I believe that some of the best action movies have a opening credits/titles sequence with great graphics or a good engaging scene.

One example that i would love to talk about is the Severance opening sequence. It is very heavy on graphics and it looks amazing. It introduces the genre as sci-fi and continues to show weird images throughout the sequence. I believe this is one of the coolest opening sequences in tv and it catches audiences attention as well.

I absolutely LOVED watching this title sequence and I want to catch audiences' eye the same way this credit sequence does.

Severance (2022)

Another example I would like to talk about is the opening sequence for Iron Man 2. In this credit sequence the person that is being introduced is the antagonist. The antagonist is trying to build some sort of gadget. There is a verity of closeups and slow paced shots to show emphasize the longevity of the process (without really making it a long scene). It is a very clever sequence that focuses on details which may contain hidden eggs or things of that sort. I believe it is a very smart way to introduce a new character and to foreshadow what might happen in the film.

Iron Man 2 (2010)

I believe that these two opening sequences could serve as some sort of inspiration, or motivation, to create a good credit sequence for our film opening. Again, i am very excited to start this new project with my teammates and I believe we will create beautiful art.

Until next time! :)

Film openings analysis... Action!

Today I spent my time in class researching 3 film openings for action films. I chose three film openings that sort of resonate with what my film opening's genre is aiming for.

1) John Wick 2

https://youtu.be/0rEe7hUcpa8?si=GnfAPQQeTDate-VZ

The film opening for John Wick is very simple but it still is a great introduction to the film. It contains a classic motorcycle and car chase scene. The motorcycle is trying to get away from this car and never does because the car catches up and stops him. A mysterious man comes out of the car and grabs something from the guy on the motorcycle. In this man's wrist we can see a watch worn inside the coat which indicates that this is John Wick, since that is his trademark. It keeps him mysterious and it does not show his face. We want to create that sort of mystery for one of our scenes so I believe this could bee good inspiration.

2) Avengers: Infinity War

https://youtu.be/mKZbYre2kxk?si=vbUXziI1mwbmAYTn

I believe this is one of the most interesting and exciting film openings in superhero movies. I enjoy the tension that is created in the opening scene of this movie and the fear that this group of bad guys impose on audiences. My group and I aren't aiming for something this serious but the seriousness of the antagonists is something we want to implement into one of our characters. We also wan to do something that leaves a mark sort of like this film opening.

3) Oceans 12!!!

https://youtu.be/UnAC5V8XBAw?si=kfdchqOELUFmidhX

Yes Oceans 12! I Love this film and I believe is one of the most fun heist/spy movies of our generation. The film opening to this film, I believe is super funny. The description of the character and him getting away once he's gotten caught is hilarious. We want to add that sort of element to our film opening scene. We want our protagonist to be humorous and witty. A little smartass I would say. This is great inspiration for it....

Transitioning into Cambridge Portfolio!

 Transition to Cambridge Portfolio!

Hey! This post is to inform you all that I will be transitioning from my traditional posts into the AICE Media Portfolio portion for my final exam. This includes the two most recent genre posts.

For this portion of our exam, I will be documenting the creative process for my two-minute film opening... and a few other things ;)

Last week we started by talking about the two-minute film opening and all the rules we need to follow. We are allowed to work in groups of up to 3 people. Luckily I have already chosen the two other people that I am working with: Gustavo Zorrilla and Bella Giampaolo. I am super excited to work with them since we have already teamed up in order to make the Music Video Project. We have a really great dynamic and strong chemistry and I believe our project will be epic!

We have a few ideas in mind but we are still brainstorming a few ideas until we decide what we finally want to create.

One idea that we have in mind is maybe an action opening with some comedy as well?

We are trying to figure out how it will work but we are sure that in the end it is going to be great. I can't wait to continue working and this project and start filming it as well.

Have a good one and see you on the next post :)

Portfolio Project Genre #2

 Romcoms

Romcoms are fun and lovely films that audiences all enjoy. Romcoms is genre I enjoy to watch with a warm cup of tea on a rainy day. They bring comfort and joy while also teaching audiences valuable lessons about love and life in general.

Romcoms are fun films which target teenagers as well as adults ranging from 16-50 years old. These films also aim more towards the female population since they enjoy these types of movies more than males. Romcoms are a mix of two genres: Romance and Comedies. The mix of the two combines typical themes of both genres in order to complement one another. Most romcoms follow the same formula: two people meet, they start to develop feelings for each other, there is some sort of conflict that tests their love for each other, and once they overcome it they receive their happy ending. Not all follow these specific steps but they all do have one or two of these in their formula.

Romcoms are also known for involving "tropes". These tropes identify how the two protagonists' story are gonna develop. For example, friends to lovers is a trope where two friends start developing romantic feelings for each other and get their happy ending.

These tropes are entertaining for audiences and it makes the experience of romcoms more fun.

One of the biggest techniques used in romcoms that is prominent, is a big dramatic yet funny grand gesture done by one of the characters. Although it is not a romcom, there is one scene in The Amazing Spiderman 2 that I believe is a great example for this. Spiderman writes in webs I Love You for his girlfriend Gwen on the Brooklyn Bridge to try and tell her that he will follow her on whatever path she chooses to take. Grand Gestures are a huge step for reconciliation and forgiveness in order to have that happy ending. It shows the power that yearning can have on a relationship.

Rom-coms' biggest marketing strategy recently is the use of social media campaigns. Social media campaigns contain the tropes mentioned above and ships... ESPECIALLY for love triangles. One good example for this is the Summer I Turned Pretty series. There are two teams/ships that evolved from this show: Team Jeremiah and Team Conrad. Audiences pick of a team of preference according to which character is a better match for the main character. This has also been seen with the movie Twilight where there is Team Edward and Team Jacob. This allows audiences to interact with the content of this films/shows that romcom fans enjoy.

This strategy is a good example of the Active Audience Theory by Stuart Hall. The interaction of audiences and content can help boost viewings for a project.

Two films that I believe are great representations of the genre are How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days & Crazy Rich Asians

How to Lose a Guy in 10 days follows the story of journalist for a woman's magazine and a marketing specialist for a sports magazine. The woman took on a challenge to try out different things to lose/ scare away a guy in 10 days. While the man was challenged to make a girl fall in love with him in 1 week. They both meet at a bar and that is where things start getting interesting.

Crazy Rich Asians follows the story of a young couple who travel to Singapore for a friend's wedding. The woman finds out that her boyfriend comes from a rich and well-known family in the country and they both enjoy a luxurious time in their vacation. The woman finally gets to meet the family and the mother does not approve of her. Then things start to stir up from that first interaction.

I believe that researching for this genre was way easier than researching from the action genre. It was fun and entertaining as well because I enjoy this genre a LOT. These movies are very comforting for me and are a great distraction for the everyday hassle.

Portfolio Project Genre #1

 ACTION

The action genre is fun and exciting. This genre contains many fighting sequences and lots of danger. It keeps audiences at the edge of their seats. Many different genres have this specific genre in them as well.

This genre had it's first big boom in the 1980s, which was also considered its Golden Age. Action movies tend to attract young adults ranging 16-30 years old. These movies tend to also aim a bit more for the male population, however all genders enjoy this genre. All action movies share a pretty similar plot where there is a hero (protagonists) who faces high stakes. The protagonist always has an obstacle that they have to face which most of the time is a villain (antagonist). Superhero, War, and Sci-fi movies are just a few subgenres that contain action.

Some main themes that are shown in action movies are: good vs. evil, revenge, and redemption.

One of the most prominent techniques that are in action movies are stunts. Stunts are what make the audience gasp and cheer for the characters. They keep audiences invested in what they are watching. They are essential to a good action movie because it adds more to the fast paced aspect of it. Another important technique that is incorporated into action movies are props. Many action movies contain a lot of weaponry which is a huge trademark of the genre. Guns, knives, swords, etc. are very commonly used in action movies. Some weapons are iconic for specific characters, like Thor's hammer, which defines the character.

In order for action movies to attract audiences they have to use different strategies such as marketing in order to successfully receive viewings. One way that action movies market their films are with trailers. Typically action trailers are fast paced and action packed. It shows sneak peeks of the fighting sequences, big explosions, and violence that the film contains. They are massive and engaging for viewers who enjoy these movies. Posters showing awesome and epic pictures of the main character also serve as a marketing tool.

Two films I believe that are great staples of the action genre are Die Hard and John Wick.

John Wick is an action packed film that follows a man who is seeking revenge for... the death of his dog. Although it does not sound traditional, this dog was John's last gift from his deceased wife. This sparked a fire in him which leads to the search for the killer.

Die Hard follows a police officer who attends a Christmas Eve party with his family. This party is soon interrupted by some terrorists and the only person who can save the hostages is him. This movies is considered an epic Christmas movie which has sparked a huge debate on whether it is or isn't a proper Christmas movie.

I really enjoyed researching about this movie genre and I believe it is one of the best ones there is. It is exciting and engaging. It is appealing to many audiences and I just love learning more about my favorite genres in general.
