A media theory I would like to implement to my film opening would be Vladimir Propp's Character theory. This theory talks about the seven traditional characters that are show in fantasy stories. Let's jump right in.
Vladimir Propp states that characters can be classified into specific roles. he argues that there are seven types of characters:
1) Hero- protagonists
2) Villain- antagonist
3) Dispatcher- character show sends the protagonist on their journey
4) Helper- character who aids protagonist
5) Donor- character that provides the protagonist with something that will help them succeed.
6) Princess- reward or motivation for protagonist
7) False hero- character who may not be initially set up as a villain but who works to prevent the protagonist from succeeding.
Some examples for these characters (these are not from the same movie):
1) Batman- The Dark Knight
2) Joker- The Dark Knight
3) Nick Fury- Avengers
4) Happy- Spider-Man
5) Katniss' donors- The Hunger Games
6) Princess Peach- Super Mario Brothers
7) Mysterio- Spider-Man: Far from Home
The reason I would like to implement this theory to my opening is because it essential to the story. We would use the first 4 of these characters in our opening. Without this theory the idea of our heist sequence wouldn't make sense. I believe this theory is essential to every story since it helps drive the story forward. I believe this is already implemented in the script and the way that our sequence is going to go.
